The Miss Universe 2009 contest took place in the Bahamas early Monday (India time) and Stefanía Fernández from Venezuela was crowned the beauty queen. Surprisingly this time there was no single Asian contestant among the Miss Universe 2009 top 15, even hot favorite Kianca Manalo, Miss Philippines and Ekta Chaudhry Miss India, did not able to make it.
But its said that it was sheer bad luck for Delhi girl Ekta Chaudhary who failed to reach the top 15 for the 2009 edition of the event. It seems like the drought for Miss Universe still continue for India as the last Miss Universe was Lare Dutta in the year 2000.
Ritu Kumar said: “A lot has changed in the format. What I feel is that a lot depends on the sponsors there who might be dictating their terms. All we can do and have been doing is try and give our best. After all we have to take our chances.”
It was also speculated that Ekta’s short hair was the main reason for her not being successful.
“She looks very pretty and has Indian looks but I feel her short hair was the main drawback. It didn’t gel very well with her Indian looks and costumes,” said Leena Singh of Ashima-Leena designer duo.
It just seems very unfortunates. But all we have to do is try a lot harder next time because its been long time we haven’t had a winner. Its time we did something. But does this adds pressure on Miss India, Pooja Chopra who will be competing for Miss World crown?
Only time would tell.
